The video “Anthropocene: How Humans Are Changing the Nitrogen Cycle” explores the impact of human activity on the natural nitrogen cycle, focusing on how industrial processes, agricultural practices, and fossil fuel combustion have disrupted nitrogen balance in ecosystems. The video introduces key nitrogen cycle processes—such as nitrogen fixation, nitrification, and denitrification—then explains how the Haber-Bosch process, excessive fertilizer use, and emissions from factories contribute to environmental issues like eutrophication, dead zones, and biodiversity loss. By presenting this information visually and audibly, the video aims to raise awareness about the Anthropocene’s role in accelerating ecological change through anthropogenic nitrogen pollution.
To create the video, we utilized AI-powered tools for accessibility, efficiency, and visual engagement. We used Fliki, an AI text-to-video platform, to generate voiceovers and animations that align with our script and educational goals. BioRender was employed to create scientifically accurate diagrams that depict microbial nitrogen transformations, nitrogen pathways, and the difference between natural and industrial fixation processes. These tools enabled us to streamline production while ensuring the content was both visually appealing and scientifically grounded, making complex environmental science more approachable for a wider audience.
