Featuring Scholarly Research, Writing, and Media at St. Mary's University

This video focuses on Edwin M. Stanton’s determined stance in refusing to leave office, asserting his protection under the Tenure of Office Act amidst President Johnson’s repeated attempts to remove him. The complex, often hostile relationship between Johnson and Stanton underscores the gravity of Stanton’s dedication to preserving the stability of a divided nation. During my research, I was struck by Stanton’s resilience, and I wanted to capture the weight of his commitment in this video.

  1. Script and Imagery Development: Using ChatGPT, I crafted the lyrics and storyline for a song that conveys Stanton’s unwavering mission. ChatGPT also assisted in generating initial visual concepts, using prompts that reflected the intensity and solemnity of Stanton’s struggle.
  2. Refining Prompts for Visual Accuracy: I adjusted and refined the prompts with precision, ensuring each image embodied Stanton’s resolve and the era’s tension. This iterative process allowed for visuals that truly represented the historical gravity of Stanton’s stance.
  3. Song Creation: To amplify the impact, I used Suno AI to transform the lyrics into a hard-hitting rock track, chosen to evoke Stanton’s steadfast nature and to immerse the audience in the era’s high-stakes political atmosphere.

This combination of tools enabled me to portray Stanton’s perseverance with depth, using both visuals and music to emphasize his refusal to yield in the face of adversity.
