Children’s Dental Care: Tips for Parents

I would like to express my gratitude to my Epidemiology professor, Dr. L Boies, and my peers for their guidance and encouragement in completing this project. I would also like to thank St. Mary’s University for offering me reliable information from healthcare resources. Their contributions have allowed me to use my platform and educate the community around me about the importance of prioritizing oral care for kids.

Fernanda Lopez

I was born and raised in Mcallen, TX, a border city that lacked many healthcare services. This sparked my motivation to pursue a career in this field and make a lasting impact in people's lives. I was always had a passion for dentistry, which is why I am following the Pre-dental track with hopes of becoming a general dentist in South Texas. After graduating in May 2023, I will receive my bachelors degree in Biology and certification in Public Health. Throughout my undergraduate years, I found ways to get involved in the field and make an impact in the community around me. I took on leadership roles in the Pre-Dental Society that have allowed me to educate my campus during oral hygiene awareness week and give care packages to the homeless shelters. Additionally, I am an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority in which we have hosted multiple fundraisers for our philanthropies, The Sunshine Cottage and The Sparky Foundation.

This was informative and well written! The number one overlooked health care need in the United States is children’s dental care. Poor hygiene can have an effect on children’s quality of life. Visiting the dentist at an early age is an essential part of children’s healthcare. I found all the information that was conveyed to be very fascinating because I honestly did not know how big of a problem this was, and now I will make sure to stress the importance of dental health to my friends and family.

Congratulations on your nomination! This is such an informative infographic. I liked your design and the pictures. I found it shocking that only 23% of one-year-olds are going to the dentist. Oral health is so important in life. Informing parents, especially first-time parents, of the importance of oral health is going to benefit many children in the long run.

I think this infographic was informative and amazingly done! I do not think we get enough information concerning dental care, so this was refreshing to see! Dental care is just as important as other forms of health care, especially for children. Starting early is so important to ensure not just healthy teeth, but a healthy body. This however, is not something children are always aware of and sadly neglect. It is important to provide caregivers with accurate and simple information to aid them to ensuring their children’s teeth are healthy and cared for properly. I loved reading this and hope to see more dental care articles and infographics in the future as I recognize its value and importance.

Congratulations on your nomination. I love the design you went with. It really catches the reader’s eye. I love how easy it is to read and to understand. I also like how it gets the point across without over doing it with words. This is something that is very important and simple, which had been executed so well. Good job!

Congratulations on your nomination!! This infographic is quite educational and raises more than just the issue of pediatric dental care. Despite the fact that dental care is one of the most essential components of quality of life, there is a persistent problem with health care in the United States. I believe you done a fantastic job at being educational while using quality visuals and a pleasing color palette. This infographic was really nicely done. Congrats again!

Great job on your article, it was very informative and educational. From your research and the data you found, it seems like parents tend to not take their children to the dentist when they are fairly young. As those kids get older it shows a higher percentage of parents taking their kids to the dentist. I’m surprised by that data because I would’ve thought the younger they are the higher the percentage would be. Congrats on the nomination for your article!

I really enjoyed reading this infographic as well as the topic chosen. I liked how the infographic highlighted the effects of poor dental hygiene on kids’ school performance as well as their overall quality of life since I feel as if many people fail to take those aspects into account despite their importance, overall an amazing article.

I really enjoyed reading this infographic because it presented the information in a fast and effective manner. Not only did it provide many good tips to parents, but it also provided a ton of interesting information about the state of kid’s dental health today. I found all the information that was conveyed to be very fascinating because I honestly did not know how big of a problem this was, and now I will make sure to stress the importance of dental health to my friends and family.

Poor hygiene can have an effect on children’s quality of life. Visiting the dentist at an early age is an essential part of children’s healthcare. Experts recommend that children begin with oral health care as early as age 1, or when their first teeth emerge.

Beautiful work! The infographic is well organized and is very pleasing to look at. It makes me more curious about the importance of dental hygiene for children. You are correct that people overlook it when thinking about the health of children. For me growing up, my aunt worked at a kid’s play-place that encouraged dental health. This looks like something they could have had there. It looks very professional. Good job!
