Do the Numbers Lie? – Misleading Statistics Involving Illegal Immigrant Costs on Taxpayers

I would like to thank Dr. Boies and my anonymous peer editors for their feedback throughout my process of publishing. Through my passion for this topic I hoped to become better at recognizing examples of how statistics can be misleading and how to take everything into consideration when coming to a conclusion. If this project accomplishes anything, I would hope it encourages others to question, challenge, and research information given to us by the media.

This is something companies and news sources are going to continue to do. What worries me is that Courts use this type of data to make judgments. On the federal level, this renders misinformed judgments, which is never a good thing for that institution that is supposed to be objective.

Sophia, your infographic on this sensitive topic is truly exceptional. Your meticulous research not only divided the numbers reported on Fox News but also clearly labeled them, revealing a significant drop in the initially presented percentage of tax dollars allocated toward illegal immigrant programs. Your work powerfully highlights the manipulation of numbers and underscores the importance of critical analysis.
