I am a first-generation, senior Environmental Science major with a Biology minor and will be graduating in May 2022. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, I am very excited to move to Boston, MA soon to start my PhD in Biological Sciences in Public Health at Harvard University where I hope to study Space Toxicology. I am currently the President of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) St. Mary's chapter, Founder and Vice President of StMU Humanitarians, and have been a MARC U*STAR scholar for almost 2 years. I also angle myself as a business-scientist, as I have authored a children's book (We Are All Human) and avidly market it to bookstores/bookshops. In my summers as a St. Mary's student, I have completed research projects at Michigan State University, Rutgers University, and with University of Louisville.

I really like how you are bringing attention to this topic. This is so important to discuss with our youth and how this can affect them in many different ways. There was fun visuals that each corresponded with a piece of information. I like how you also provided the affects that E-cigs have. This was all organized very well and is very informative. Great job!

This infographic on e-cigarette usage amongst the youth by Midori brings upon a striking and prominent health problem in the upcoming generation. Although there is belief among teens and young adults that e-cigs are ”cool”, I find it very smart that Midori includes a section in the infographic to debunk and exemplify why this lung damaging process is quite the opposite. Overall, the structure, images, and easily readable text make this a truly impressive, easily understandable infographic for all age groups.

Hi Midori this infographic was really informative creating this infographic about the E-cigarette usage among the youth. There is so much on this infographic that I would have never known about. The risks and the pictures were so amazing and overall your entire infographic was eye catching! Congratulations on winning best infographic you deserve it because the research and quality were so amazing! This is something that not many teens and young adults know even adults so having this infographic can really bring awareness to this issue. Good Job! Excellent Work!

Your infographic explains well how much youth are involved with E-cigs. In high school, it was very common for my peers to have pens. They would also have multiple just because they wanted to or they would go through one every week. When I first came to St. Mary’s I saw the same thing. Although the youth have been informed of the effects of nicotine, they continue to choose to use them.

Reading this made me want to grab any vape cartridge in a 50-mile radius and throw them in a dumpster. The images and color scheme you used evoked a visceral response in my mind that instantly made me feel disgust towards any kind of e-cigarette usage; the picture of the flasks and test tubes full of who-knows-what that you put next to the list of chemicals common in e-cigarettes does this perfectly. Your work reminded me of the early 2000s anti-smoking ads that would come on when I would watch a Blu-Ray DVD. It is a testament to your skill that you were able to capture that same feeling in a single infographic. Visceral, nostalgic, informative. 10/10

Infographics like this are really important and friendly for anyone to read. It highlights the most important information and is put in a concise and informative manner. The visuals such as title colors and images are engaging and help the reader draw their attention. Something like this should go out to local middle and high schools and even elementary schools.

Hi Midori! Congratulations on this well-deserved award! I was surprised to learn from your infographic that middle school aged children are using e-cigarettes. This is a very scary and very real trend that is taking over. I think many people assume that an e-cigarette is less harmful than the normal one. However, it is clear that there are detrimental effects as presented on your infographic. This is really important to be aware of, and I am interested to see what future studies will find.

This feels like an infographic that a professional counselor/doctor would give to a patient and I love the realism you put into it. This amount of pictures in the infographic shows and draws your attention to the importance of e-cigarettes. The makers make you want to read the specific details and the colorful pictures show a sense of comfort. Love the topic and I wish that more people can draw attention to this as well.

This infographic is laid out and decorated so nicely! It is eye catching and the wording is quick and informative. E-Cigarettes have so many bad effects on health beyond just messing up our lungs and they are not advertised enough!

I do appreciate the fact you wanna bring attention to E-cigs, but in reality, kids won’t care. All they care about is being popular and easily giving in to social norms. No matter how harmful they are, or what they represent, kids will use them anyway. Very informative and well delivered infographic, but I doubt it’ll actually make these kids rethink their habit. After all, people still smoke cigarettes even though they’re harmful as well.
