As a forensic science major, I found this infographic really interesting because it shows how DNA can be used to figure out family relationships in real cases. Pedigree analysis is something I’ve learned about in class, so seeing it explained visually made it click even more for me. I liked how it connected genetics to real world forensic work, especially in identifying missing persons. One thing that could make it even better is adding a short real case example or simplifying some of the terminology. Overall, it was engaging and easy to follow and I enjoyed learning from it!

This poster made kinship analysis easy to understand and meaningful. I liked how the statistics showed real impact in forensic science. The explanation of DNA, STR markers, and family connections helped connect genetics to crime solving. The visuals made the information clear and engaging. The real case example about America’s Unknown Child stood out and showed why this science matters. This poster helped me appreciate how genetics supports justice and how science applies outside the classroom in real situations.

    Hi Destiney,
As a forensic science major, I was immediately interested in the exact data analysis of kinship analysis and how it aids in solving various cases. This infographic brought to my mind the Golden State killer who went unidentified for several years since DNA testing was not as advanced. Analysts were then able to take the assailant’s DNA and test it against various systems and public databases until a match was found leading to the arrest of Joseph DeAngelo Jr. in 2018. The advancement of forensic science has greatly increased the number of cases as you thoroughly pointed out ranging from rapes to murders helping to seek justice for the victims thanks to the many loci and sex-linked markers. Great Job and Thank you!

Hi Destiny I really enjoyed your infographic talking about Kinship Analysis in forensic science. Learning about in forensics they are wanting to use this more and are developing to use it more for paternity testing, and to solve murders and rapes in forensics. Seeing the numbers that this has been used in cases is really interesting. Congratulations on winning the award using this infographic you really deserve it! I will for sure recommend this infographic to many in the future because it was so interesting to read. This infographic was so good so much information. Really great work! Your research was so informative and interesting!

Hi Destiny! I am also a forensic science major but with an emphasis in criminology. I found your infographic to be very interesting because of how you correlated kinship analysis to your field, forensic science. I also enjoyed how you mentioned the “The Boy in the Box” case because I’m familiar with that case and saw how much we progressed from not knowing who he was to now figuring out his name. Usually when I learn about what goes on when seeing how investigators utilize genetic testing, they don’t often go in depth on how the testing is conducted.

Hello! This is an amazing infographic. I recently watched a documentary about “The Boy in a Box,” and it broke my heart. More people need to know about Kinship Analysis, especially those who have lost a family member. This infographic was very easy to read and understand, nice job!

Hi Destiny! I really enjoyed reading your infographic about Kinship analysis. I like how concise and organized it is making it easy to follow. I have never heard of Kinship analysis, but it is cool to see that they use it to find family members and genetic information to try and solve a case. It is crazy to see that over 500 murders and rapes have been solved due to kinship analysis.

Very informative and great organization! Forensic genealogy is not easy to sum up because of how many advancements in technology and the amount of science that goes into explaining the core concepts, but you did such a great job touching on the facts and background for a general audience! The numbers you shared are fascinating and useful when considering the importance and implications of genetics in forensic science. Nice graphics too!
