Yuck to Gunk? How Dirt Under Your Nail Can Solve a Case

Acknowledgments:

I’d like to sincerely thank Dr. McLeod for giving me the opportunity to publish my own infographic and for encouraging us to explore our creativity by connecting anything we’re passionate about with microscopy. Her support and open-minded approach made this experience incredibly meaningful. I’m also truly grateful to my peers who took the time to review my infographic and offered thoughtful advice. I would also like to thank Franchesca Tinacba, a graduating senior, who guided me on how to edit my infographic. In Franchesca’s legacy, I’ll do my best to support future students just as she supported me. This all wouldn’t be what it is without their input and encouragement.

Understanding the importance of certain trace evidence in cases can be really important especially for someone like me majoring in forensics. I like how this infographic explains not only the importance of the evidence itself but also the risks associated with the use of this kind of evidence. I would’ve liked to see a case study where this kind of evidence was used in order to solve the case but I understand those can be difficult to find.
