Yairy Mendez intends to graduate in the Fall of 2023 with her B.A. in Biology and a certification in Public Health. She has begun taking courses for her Master’s in Public Health (MPH) at UTHealth School of Public Health in San Antonio. Her aspirations involve entering the field of infectious disease epidemiology.
Amazing! I just find it interesting that after consuming one little opioid it can lead you towards major complications. I think that with great research like this, you can change someone’s perspective!
To think that genetics can make someone more susceptible to substance abuse is scary to consider. Opioid abuse is such a dangerous phenomena right now and there does not seem to be an easy cure for OUD. Hopefully by increasing our understanding of the genes correlated to the disorder we may get closer to finding a method to better fight it.
